Shroomify collects the following information to provide our services:
- Anonymous Device Identifier: A randomly generated UUID stored securely on your device. This is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity.
- Mushroom Sighting Data: When you opt in to share with the community — species name, confidence score, edibility classification, approximate location snapped to a ~1 km grid, region label, and country.
- Usage Logs: Anonymous technical logs used to monitor app health and improve the service.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
We respect your privacy and do not collect:
- Exact GPS coordinates — display and stored coordinates are rounded to a ~1 km grid before leaving your device.
- Personal information such as your name or email address.
- Your photos — images are sent directly to the Kindwise API for analysis and are not stored on our servers.
3. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used to:
- Power the community sightings map, showing where mushrooms have been spotted.
- Show regional mushroom distribution and seasonal trends.
- Improve identification accuracy insights over time.
4. Community Sightings
When you opt in to "Share with Community" for a given identification, your sighting is stored with grid-snapped coordinates rounded to approximately 1 km — never your exact GPS position. You can opt out at any time on a per-identification basis before submitting.

Community sighting data is retained indefinitely to build and maintain the community database. Usage logs are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are automatically deleted.
